This was a foreshadowing of future civil rights unrest and a demand for equal treatment. Many of the youth at the time were looking for a way to show their independence from their conservative parents. They adopted the zoot suit fashion from African Americans in the 1930’s who chose to dress flashy to demonstrate that they were going to enjoy life no matter how many challenges they faced. The youth were also becoming captivated by jazz music and dancing, which many, including their parents, believed to be unsavory. These factors helped the Mexican American youth identify as a group of people who were “cool”, independent, and affluent, as the suits were quite expensive to buy.
I believe that I’m not exactly like William Bloom. Throughout the movie Big Fish, one of the main characters William Bloom goes through a dynamic change while trying to understand his father. At first, he explains that during his childhood that his father has not been around a lot, and he never had a personal connection with his father. As a grown-up, he spent a lot of time resenting his father and being accusatory about the stories he shared. Will's father had become very ill, and he realized that some of the stories his father told were true when he found evidence of these events.
While a majority of the “old-fashioned” people disagreed with the ways of flappers in this time, others saw it as a declaration of independance. “(…) the New Woman of the 1920s boldly asserted her right to dance, drink, smoke, and date—to work her own property, to live free of the strictures that governed her mother’s generation. During the 1920s women gained a freedom that they had not known before. Women were wearing new and shorter fashion styles (document 4). Before the 1920s women’s fashion included floor length dresses that were usually reworn every day. Wearing the same dress every day was seen as a normality during this time and owning too many dresses could have been considered frivolous. In the 1920s however many women owned multiple dresses that they did not have to wear every day or even week.
While there were many reforms between 1920-and 1970, the reforms made during the 1920s, 1930s, and 1960s have had the most longer lasting effect on the United States. The 1920s saw a period with the greatest social reform. Americans were beginning to realize that there was more to life than working, in respect to the fact during the 1920s, “Americans spent more and more of their income on leisure activities like vacations, movies, and sporting events” (Foner 783). The rapid expansion of industries causing the development of the middle class is a primary reason why Americans were able to enjoy leisure activities since the had a steady income coming in. The use of technology increased during this decade, as people were able to afford radios and phonographs.

The 1920s was a period which is called “the roaring twenties” by historians. At that time, as a result of the economic situation in the US improved significantly, lives of ordinary Americans changed a lot. These changes can be divided into three parts. Firstly, people’s material standard of living has got a huge improvement.
A new generation brings in a new, different culture. And somehow, it goes from different to rebellious. The adult American society will often look at the youth subculture’s homology: their choice of clothes, music, dance, and their overall lifestyle, and they will just begin to form these “personality conflicts” (O’Connor 412). If adults, more specifically parents, begin to have better understanding of why their subculture is often so different, then they will be able to relate to and raise “better” teenagers. This does not mean that every elder and adult has to embrace youth culture, but there should be an attempt to have a better understanding of it.

The Catholic Telegraph of Cincinnati was in an uproar at this sexual dancing style, calling it “absolutely indecent” for a female to be half dressed and dancing in such a crude way in public (Allen, p.68). Fredrick Allen also focused on the major conflict of how the younger generation acted out during the roaring twenties.
The Roaring Twenties I. The Roaring Twenties altered the everyday lives of many Americans. Many more people listened to music, women became more liberated, and there was a rise in the number of people smoking and drinking. The list goes on and on. Many major events took place in the twenties like women getting the right to vote, the ratification of the 19th Amendment (Prohibition), and the publication of “The Great Gatsby”. As a whole the Roaring Twenties were pictured as a time of independence and freedom.
Victorian Era Entertainment The Victorian Era lasted for 64 years while Queen Victoria reigned. Entertainment was a huge part of this time because they did not have the modern technology we have today to keep them amused. The Victorians had many forms of entertainment such as sports, different pastimes, toys, and many various hobbies. There are many different eras throughout the years, but the victorian era is by far the most interesting.

Thus, some ethical issues that arise are; end-of-life issues, physician assisted suicide and euthanasia and right to life and abortion.
Due to the change of our society, the way we view relationships have changed for the better. In the 1900’s, men viewed their wives more as their property and not their life partner. “I want a wife to take care of my children,” (Brady 340) is a prime example of men giving the wife the responsibility to watch the children so they could go off and do what they want. Unfortunately, I see why Brady said this because my Grandpa was the same way. When my mom was growing up, her mother was always the one that was watching the four kids because he was always working on the farm or going to town to hang out with his buddies.
Throughout history many events have occurred to impact society as we know it today. Society is fickle and changes often to match the time period. During the period of the 1900s, New York experienced many changes that will establish the growing society today. The Brown Building is an example of a historical site that had an impact earlier in the American political system. Site of the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire, the Brown Building represents a site to the rise of women power in the country during the course of the 1900s.
