Technology in our society and all over the world has advanced tremendously through the years. It is used on a daily basis, and life without it would be hard. But, what is technology? Technology is the making, modification, usage, and knowledge of tools, machines, techniques, crafts, systems, and methods of organization, in order to solve a problem, improve a preexisting solution to a problem, achieve a goal, handle an applied input/output relation or perform a specific function. Teston and Daniel extended a research to early adolescent software piracy. The purpose of the study was to compare the attitudes, reasoning, and behavior in two groups. It says in the article “Early adolescent technology students who view software piracy as ethical and early adolescent technology students who view computer-based piracy as unethical” (68). The definition of ethical is pertaining to or dealing with morals or the principles of morality; pertaining to right and wrong in conduct. The definition of unethical is not morally correct. The objectives of this study was to determine any difference in value orientation toward traditional, determine any difference in the moral reasoning levels of early adolescent technology education students who view software piracy as ethical and those who view software piracy as unethical, determine if moral orientation toward software piracy is related to actual general ethical behavior, determine if their adolescent technology education students’ software ownership is related to their moral orientation, and determine if there is a difference in software piracy attitudes among students in a technology education class compared to middle school students who have not had a technology education class. This study is a very good example of showing the different understandings of software
