Proposition 63 is another legislation in the long list of gun control. It is an attempt to control the gun which is nothing more than a tool. The tool used to fight for our freedom, sovereignty as a nation, and for some people, even their lives. The difference between a gun and another weapon is that it is an “equalizer”, in fact it is commonly referred to as the “great equalizer”. An equalizer between two people in a physical conflict, such as two men who both wield swords where in which the man who is stronger and more physically capable will always have the advantage whether or not he is more skillful or intellectually adept. Proposition 63 is a gun control legislation in California that enforces the regulation of ammunition in the State. It requires that in order for individuals to purchase ammunition one must first acquire a permit from the California Department of Justice. As well as requiring dealers of ammunition to obtain a license. “A well-regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.”(Jefferson) The key word here is that it shall not be infringed.
It our rural hunter friend wishes to purchase ammunition and he must travel all the way almost all the way across the state to get it at a reasonable price, then that is an infringement of his rights.
The definition of infringe is as follows: “act so as to limit or undermine (something); encroach on” (Jefferson). Gun control as it is limits our right to bear arms. Proposition 63 aims to minimize the amount of ammunition in California, but does so in a way that affects the law abiding.
Now many have argued that the second amendment was referring to militia and that police forces serve that purpose. Yet even back then there was a militia maintained by each state.
