The electoral college system was invented a very long time ago. A lot of things have changed since then, the most obvious is the population of this country and the technology. The electoral college system should be abolished. There are many problems with the current electoral college system. Some of these problems are, everyone’s vote is not equal, people are discouraged to vote in certain states, and it would be a more accurate representation of how the American people want as the president. These are all reasons why the current electoral college system should be abolished and should be replaced by a popular vote system. One of the biggest problems with the electoral college is that everyone’s vote is not equal. People’s votes mean more in less populated states like Wyoming than a person who lives in California. The system tries to make up for this by giving each state a different number of electoral votes. The problem is that a single person can impact in different ways by voting as it would take more votes to matter in a more populated state then it would for a few people to vote in a less populated state. People would not feel as If they had a fair share in their choice for president if they are in a very populated state like California, this makes these people feel like they are not fairly represented in the government. …show more content…

People are discouraged to vote because they don’t see the purpose of their vote in certain states. This is often talked about with republicans not feeling the need to vote in very democratic states and vice versa. One thing that is not considered often is the Independent party. Independents often get little attention because they know they are not likely to beat either the Republican or Democratic party.
