Abortion has been a national hot debate topic after the U.S.’s Supreme Court’s 7-2 decision on Roe v. Wade. The Supreme Court states that the privacy right, which is also known as the abortion right, is rightfully being protected by the First, Fourth, Ninth, and Fourteenth Amendments. Marriage, contraception, and child rearing are being included in the privacy right, therefore women have the right to whether or not to terminate her pregnancy. Nevertheless, some people believe that the right to abort is not in the Constitution’s protection simply because of their personal and religious views. These people are known as “pro-life”, while the others who support abortion are known as “pro-choice”. I am interested in this problem because I believe that there is a simple solution yet some citizens make it more complicated than it seems. Abortion is a method of removing a fetus or an embryo from the mother. It is an important solution for some women who had experienced unfortunate events, such as rape. Birth mothers can try to find adoptive parents who would love to have kids but cannot. This can be done through internet services. Another option is to have a social worker involves in the process of adopting a child. This means that the social worker will keep the contact between biological mothers and adoptive parents and make sure that the child is healthy. Last but not least, providing more contraceptive pills would reduce abortion. All of the solutions is working, but not too well since there is still a rift between “pro-choice” and “pro-life”. In my opinion, the solution is easy: let a woman has the power to decide if she wants to keep the child inside her. Obviously, “pro-life” people would disagree with my solution because they believe that the moment the conception happens, a life has created.
