Can I Get An 'Amen'? Not everyone is religious. Not everyone has the same beliefs. But some people think that it is okay to take away everyone else's right to practice their beliefs freely. There have been many cases and issues about atheists, or other religious groups versus others, trying to take away other people's right to practice their religions. Doesn't seem fair right? If a case were to happen where one group was to take away another's religious rights, it would be unconstitutional and the loser would lose an individual right. I am a hundred percent for religious freedom, and the ideals it represents. How is religious freedom related to the common good? Some people will not be able to answer this question. For others its simple: religious freedom and the common good are related by the fact that it keeps the peace. There have been many wars in other countries that were mostly started by religious conflicts; for example the Second Sudanese Civil War, which started in 1983 and ended in 2005. This war had a huge religious conflict between Muslims, Christians and Animists. Around 2 million people died in this war, either directly or indirectly. Another example is the Second Congo War, which started in 1998, and is still going on. In 2008, 5.4 million people had already died, mostly by disease or starvation. Here in …show more content…
It's not confined to five different religions. You can be a Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, Atheist, and any other the others and you do not have to worry about your freedom to practice it. One thing some people do not catch is that freedom of religion is similar to freedom of speech. Everyone agrees that we need to be able to say what we want, about whatever we want, when we want, how we want and will not get in trouble. Freedom of religion is the same. We want to practice our beliefs when we want, how we want, by doing what our beliefs will have us
