The War Powers Act does work within the constitutional authority of congress. The act was passed on November seventh 1993. The law is a law that is intended to limit the presidential power usage of the military. It limits the power of the president and makes the president go through congress first before making any major decisions. It is a very controversial topic with the citizens whether think the War Powers act is right or wrong.
The Canadian National Defence (CND) faces a number of challenges, many of which are rooted in human iss6ues. These include a strained budget, recruitment and retention of personnel, a lack of diversity in the workforce, and outdated equipment and technology. CND has also been criticized for its lack of transparency and accountability, as well as its inability to effectively respond to changing global conditions and threats. Moreover, with the large number of Canadian Armed Forces personnel deployed abroad, the CND must ensure their physical and mental well-being, in addition to providing adequate training and support. Finally, the CND must continuously strive to remain up-to-date with the latest technology and tactics, in order to remain effective
The mandatory draft. An infamous rule that, during times of war, all men of a country within a certain age range must sign up for the military, without any choice in the matter. Many believe that, in the U.S.A., where everyone is free, that mandatory draft does not apply. It seems logical. In a land where one is free to make their own choices, not the government, it would make sense that mandatory draft does not exist.
“War. What is it good for? Absolutely nothing!” (Starr, 1970). I believe that we should bring our US troops home, we need security here back at home, the repercussions aren’t worth it, and war has never solved any of our problems except for creating more.
First off, the United States should get rid of the Draft because it would divide the Society. The United States has a very ugly history with the draft. There has been many draft dodgers, protests, and Anti War and Anti Draft demonstrations most commonly in the Vietnam War era. The protests over the draft got violent during the American Revolution. One example, that the draft would divide the society is To Protester’s
Militia persons were normally expected to provide their own weapons, equipment, or supplies, although they might later be compensated for losses or expenditures. From the nation's founding through the early 1900s, the United States maintained only a minimal army and relied on state militias, directly related to earlier Colonial militias, to supply the majority of its troops. By the mid 1600s every town had at least one militia company with a captain. In response to conflicts with Pequot Indians [the colonists encroaching on Indian lands and sacred sites], the General Court of the Massachusetts Bay Colony ordered the colony’s scattered militia companies be organized into North, South, and East regiments with a goal of increasing the militia’s
Thus it is very clear that the emancipation of slaves was no more than measure of war to give service to the paramount ob2 Lincoln’s emancipation policy , at the beginning , Lincoln planned to free the slaves of Delaware with Federal compensation at the rate of $400 per slave , showing though the huge expense was involved , the compensation at the rate of $400 each for all the salves was insignificant in comparison with one day’s cost of the war , which amounted to $2 , 000 , 000 , while eighty - seven days’cost of the war would be more than provide compensation at $400 each for all the slaves of Delaware , Maryland , the District [4]P375 of Columbia , Kentucky and Missouri. The other example is the emancipation proclamation. The e2 mancipation
Ever since the early 1940s, young men across the country have been forced to enlist in the selected services. Regardless of these men’s plans for the future, it was expected of them to lay down their lives for their country. While the military draft was intended to strengthen the American army, it also strengthened the arguments made by antiwar protestors. Why should people have to die for a cause they do not believe in? This was the question numerous American citizens were asking themselves throughout the entirety of the Vietnam War.
more intense today. People riot and protest just about anything these days. My own father has stated, he would not allow me or my brother to be drafted. He said "I would leave the country before I would ever let that happen". I highly doubt it would be a great move for our country to suddenly implement a draft now.
What Are the Pros and Cons of Military Spending? As the US economy tanked, the banks have been bailing out and the country losing its jobs, its military spending has continued to grow. For the past years, it is recorded to have increased more than 100%, which is very high compared to the height of Ronald Reagan’s presidency and the Cold War. The money allocated for the defense budget is used to purchase sophisticated weapons that often do not make it into production, but when they do, they are just too expensive to maintain.
“My fellow citizens, at this hour, American and coalition forces are in the early stages of military operations to disarm Iraq, to free its people, and to defend the world from grave danger.” (President Bush) In 2003, when President Bush declared war on Iraq, he argued that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction and intended to use them on the United States. I think Iraq did not have these weapons because there were no real indicators of them; most of the alleged WMDs were left over from the Iraq-Iran war, and we didn't end up finding any. I believe America used the 9/11 bombings as an excuse to invade Iraq.
In every country, there are military bases for the sake of the people. There are also places where the military base is placed. Some are near communities and some are far away isolated. If there were a military base based near a community, there is going to be advantages and some disadvantages. To start off, if there was a military base near by the commnutity an advantage would be that, because there is help nearby , it would be well maintained if something happened.
Courts-martial were trials conducted by the U.S. military or by state militaries. Most commonly, courts-martial are convened to try members of the U.S. military for criminal violations of the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ), which is the U.S. military 's criminal code. However, they can also be convened for other purposes, including military tribunals and the enforcement of martial law in an occupied territory. Federal courts-martial are governed by the rules of procedure and evidence laid out in the Manual, which contains the Rules for Courts-Martial, Military Rules of Evidence, and other guidance. State courts-martial are governed according to the laws of the state concerned.
Military grade weapons are made for one reason and one reason only—to kill human beings. There is no reason for ordinary people to have access to this type of weaponry, especially semi-automatic rifles. More weapons, especially more semi-automatic weapons, does not mean less crime; semi-automatic weapons are not convenient for personal protection, and banning these weapons could help lower the number of mass shootings that occur in this country today. In 2016 alone, approximately 39,000 Americans were killed by guns, most of these deaths were caused by semi-automatic weapons (Lopez).
“We all say not war, we are all for justice and peace. But sometimes in order to maintain peace, armed action is necessary. But we hope it won’t be the case"-by Silvio Bersuconi. This quote was said by former Italian Prime Minister who spoke about war.
