WOMEN UNDER SIEGE
Human trafficking is the trade of humans generally females of ages 13 and above. It is usually against the female’s consent and is achieved by deceitful methodology. It consists of two main aspects, sexual exploitation and forced labour.
Roughly 2.2 million girls, each year, are sold to give fuel to the ghastly sex trade industry all over the world. The ‘2013 Global Slavery Index’ by the ‘Walk Free Foundation’ shows that over half of the total sex ‘workers’ all over the world, are Indians, that’s over 15 million Indian sex ‘workers’. Some states provide services to victims, but NGOs provide the majority of rehabilitation and recuperation services to these victims. Victims that have been trafficked internationally for commercial and exploitation purposes don’t receive any compensation or protection from the Central government. The biggest problem is that once a trafficking victim has been sent home from their state-provided rehabilitation facility, they do not receive any further treatment or assistance whatsoever, may it be mental, physical or legal. And once the girls are sold they don’t even get money for the menial labour they do and the physical and mental torture they go through. The girls are made to work almost all the time during when they are awake. It is appalling but the naked truth is what is needed to get this country to take their stand against human trafficking. Most of the girls get trapped in this vicious cycle forever. Most of them are illiterate; they have little knowledge of their rights and no clue of how to return home.
