The American government has had a history of aggressively regulating alcohol consumption. In the 1920s, religious groups spearheaded the Prohibition movement, and even after the Depression, people couldn't get a drink when they needed it most. For too long have we held our young adults from drinking until twenty-one. Eighteen is the age of adulthood in the United States, and adults should have the right to make their own decisions about alcohol consumption. It should not be up to the government to tell legal adults what they can or cannot put in their bodies. By changing the drinking age to 18, DUI’s will significantly be lowered, fatalities and crashes will decrease and teenage binge drinking will become non-existent. If we supervise our teens they should definitely be able to drink they are to the age where they can handle themselves for the most part. Traffic accidents and fatalities are most common among newly-legal drinkers, regardless of the drinking age. Drivers are susceptible to drunk driving no matter what age they are allowed to drink legally so it wouldnt make much of a diffrence it would just now be happening a little sooner than before. Teens are going to drink and drive if they want to regardless of the drinking age punishing all these adults for the few immature teens is wrong and needs to stop(Mcintyre 2007). There are fewer drunk driving traffic accidents and fatalities in many countries with a drinking age of 18. Other countries have already put this into effect and it is working out for them. They say that there is no problem with alcohol age you just need better conseling for the young people on the dangers of drinking. If we inform our teenagers the risks will be lowered and it can be a great stepping stone to let our adults drink legally . If we continue to suoress our adults from drinking legally this will only cause more problems because it will be harder for them to learn and become experienced with. (Jacinto
