The voting age is currently eighteen years old but some people are wondering if the voting age should be lowered to thirteen. The United States has come a long way with voting ever since we became a nation. At first, only white men were allowed to vote; however, in 1869 the 15th amendment was passed to give African Americans the right to vote. Then, in 1920 the 19th amendment was ratified and all women were given the right to vote. On the other hand, is lowering the voting age to thirteen doing a little too much? Lowering the voting age would be a terrible idea because of immature decisions, lack of knowledge, and that teens simply do not care to vote. Teens would make immature decisions and vote for the wrong reasons. For example, some teens may vote for trump because they think he is funny but they do not really know what they are voting for. Their main priorities are what their actual interests in such as sports, school, and music. Only a few teens that young are interested in government and politics and have the knowledge on what they are doing when they vote. A thirteen year old would probably not vote because they just do not care. They are not interested in politics or who becomes president because it will not affect them directly. They are not even adults that can live on their own and many of the president's decisions will not affect them directly only their parents. On the contrary, since teens do not care about their vote, they will just go in are place a careless vote because they can. This would cause a corrupt voting on presidents and other government officials because it would not give a good representation of the people’s say and what they want.
