1. Identification of key relevant ethical issues.
Net neutrality, a topic that has recently surfaced and it is not talked about enough. Net neutrality is Internet Service Providers (ISP’s) should treat all data that travels over their networks fairly, without improper discrimination in favor of apps, sites, or services. For example, Netflix, Hulu, Disney, etc..... This principle must be upheld to protect the future of the internet, but unfortunately in 2015, the Federal Communications Commission repealed the net neutrality rules. The rule that was in place before net neutrality got repealed was that all internet service providers had to offer equal access to all web content. Yes, there are many reasons & throughout research I believe net neutrality should be preserved. I don’t believe that each Internet service provider should have control of their own traffic. I understand that we can view anything on the internet, but at the same time WE can control what our kids can view on it. We can block certain addresses in order to protect our kids. At the same time, the internet is too easily accessible for anyone & a young child can end up on the wrong website by accident. This to me just shows me the powers of company & that they just want to create a monopoly. Also, it’s another take where the government is yet again monitoring what us consumers are viewing. This doesn’t affect only us, but also smaller companies. The reason why it affects them as well is they will be driven out by competitors as smaller companies don’t have enough funds to be able to purchase these “bundles”. Net neutrality should also be preserved because it protects free speech. It ensures that all of our voices and opinions have equal access to the internet. Without free speech, Internet Service Providers could potentially censor or limit access to certain websites or content. Contrary to belief this could also be an amazing thing. Imagine your child, a kid whose brain is developing, stumbles across a website that can contain pornographic material or even someone taking their life. This can scar the child & potentially put his mental health at risk. Pajit does have some points that I agree with. For example, an analogy of mine is that we have a highway system implemented in our society. You can either go on your normal route, or you can pay extra to be in the EZ-Pass Lane. Some people don’t want to be stuck in
