With healthcare being one of the many debated things in the United States, the current issue is whether or not they should repeal Obamacare. But what exactly is Obamacare? Obamacare, which is the nickname of the Affordable Care Act of 2010, was a health reform law that was implemented by President Obama, hence the nickname Obamacare. It was officially signed into law on March 23, 2010.
Now that we know what exactly Obamacare really is, why was it implemented in the first place? The Affordable Care Act was designed to lower healthcare funding by the government. The program made it so that health insurance companies were required to accept patients even with pre-existing conditions. For those who did not want to participate in purchasing health insurance, they were penalized and fined. Obamacare also allowed children to remain on their parents insurance until the age of 26, which was a pretty nice thing. My personal opinion on the matter is that I did not agree with Obamacare when it first came out. Yes, it does make it nice that health insurance companies cannot deny you based on pre-existing conditions, however this fact makes it so health insurance companies offer higher premiums and what not. I also did not agree with the fact that if you refused to get health insurance, you were penalized for a decision that should have not involved the government. Did this law really help reduce the cost of healthcare, maybe? Was it a drastic reduction? Probably not. My point is that my feelings on Obamacare are pretty clear, I do not agree with it.
