Many students and staff have a full day of classes and having a full schedule does not permit enough time to go off campus for lunch. In addition, there are some students that get dropped off by their family, friends or public transportation and not able to leave during the day. That means some students are bound to stay on campus and limited to the junk food in the vending machines. Poor weather could also limit the students from going out and the cafeteria could be utilized in times like this. A cafeteria would offer staff and students the convenience and the choice of having a healthier meal on campus.
As I walked into the cafeteria, I caught a whiff of the food being prepared in the cafeteria and thought to myself, “Why can’t we go off-campus to get lunch?” While SLA, the lunch program at Catholic High, provides the school lunches, there could be an alternative solution to this. Unfortunately, students are detained at school during lunch hours and are not able to leave campus during lunch forcing them to be served by SLA or bring their own lunch. If Catholic High School were to introduce an open-campus lunch, students and faculty would benefit greatly. While SLA does provide the lunch at CHS, they do not live up to their standard of “high quality, nutritious, and cost efficient”.
Also, allow the students to relax from all of the work they do in class. As well as, get all of their energy out, they can talk their hearts out so that there is nothing left to talk about during class. Extra lunch means less education for the students. In my opinion a little less learning should
Schools should have open campus lunches. It gives the students a break for the day from the entire thing that is stressing them out. It gives the students a mental break. 73.4% of kids with open campus lunches have a better day compared to kids that don’t have open campus lunches. If students had open campus lunches it would be less stressful on the school cooks.
In addition to this, students can take care of their own dietary needs. Open campus lunch allows students to take a break from their chaotic or busy school days. Students with the option of open campus lunch can learn life lessons. If you want your students or children to be happier during school hours. Then, open campus lunches can make this happen.
Furthermore, another equally important reason to give the students open lunch is to experience the freedom that they have in college. Which will give them the responsibility needed to get ready for college. Students need breaks away from school and being at school for 7 hours; students need a break from learning and need time off away from campus grounds. School can be so draining at times so there is a little break away from teachers and maybe your friends would be terrific. Through open campus lunches, students are granted more independence and responsibility over their schedules, and an open campus can encourage students to develop life skills like how to manage time, money, and make healthy dietary decisions on their own.
During lunchtime, students generally make their way through the crowded cafeteria to sit with their friends, and enjoy their lunch while being supervised; however, many schools are now authorizing students to have an open campus lunchtime. An open campus allows students to leave school campus unsupervised to have lunch or hang out at a local restaurant or business. Having an open campus is beneficial because it allows students to gain independence, responsibility, trust, the health of students, socialize with friends, and help increase business at local restaurants. Therefore, I believe Arapahoe should continue to have an open campus for the benefit of our students. Having an open campus allows students to leave the school grounds to have lunch outside and be able to socialize with their peers.
Having open campus High School allows the students to make their own independent choices. (Saslow). Making these independent choices as a High School student is extremely important for kids as they grow older, it makes students more responsible as young adults (Saslow). At North Shore High School ninety-five percent of the students use the privilege of open campus responsibly (Saslow). Ninety-five percent of the time/students use their open campus lunch
For example, an ill student would probably want a bowl of hot soup from their favorite restaurant not rice with meat from the school lunch. Having an Open Campus Lunch can help students choose healthier choices out of all the options provided. When students eat a healthy lunch that satisfies them, they will be able to concentrate more in class.
In conclusion schools should not change the lunches because they don't have the power to tell students can or can't eat, they don't have the time and money, and finally because they are not allowed to put a limit on how much a student can eat due to the “No Kid Hungry
School could get out earlier if there wasn 't an extra period saved for lunch. Schools could even get an extra period to put in the day for an extra class or just more time to add onto the classes that are already going on in school. Kids would also be healthier if they did not eat the lunch from school because you never know how much fat, grease, and unhealthy ingredients are in school lunches. Even though school lunches make a lot of students not feel good, it could be a good idea to have lunch so they get energy and are not hungry throughout the day.
To obtain the particular rights, the district should allow us to have a food truck at school that sales a variety of food options. While this is the case we also know the types of pros and cons of having a food truck at high schools. List of Grievances: Until now, students have been eating the same lunch year over year, but they’re tired of the limited
Studies show that overweight students tend to have more problems with learning and paying attention (Miura). Many parents also fear that children would have the chance to skip school of get into drugs and alcohol while they are loose for their lunch break. People of the communities have also expressed their fears of increased traffic and increased risk of traffic collisions (?9 Primary Pros and Cons of Open Campus Lunch?). Not only can open lunches cause health problems, but they can lead to other dangers such as a car crash or
It becomes very difficult for students who participate in sports directly after school or those who ride the bus to find time to meet with a teach to get help. If they were to stay after school the students who ride a bus would risk missing their bus which lead to a difficult situation for their parents. Many parents are working eight to five jobs or multiple jobs and can’t take an hour to pick their student up and drive them home. If a student missed the bus because they stayed after school their parent could end up losing their job because they had to leave work. A longer lunch break would allow students to go to teachers classrooms and get help during lunch so they don’t miss the bus after school.
Imagine a school that has multiple healthy school food options, that is worth standing in line for. I think that all schools should have a healthy school lunch. It's very important to have nutritious school lunches so that we can be healthy and have energy during the school day. I think we should have better and healthier school menus. Our school menus are very high in cholesterol and saturated fat.
