The Liquor Control Board of Ontario is a provincial crown corporation in Ontario, Canada that controls the sale and distribution of alcoholic beverages in Ontario. It was established in nineteen-twenty-seven to sell liquor, wine and beer through a chain of retail stores. As of 2013 The Liquor Control Board of Ontario operates eight-hundred-fifty-three retail locations and has more than three-thousand-five-hundred employees. The privatization of the Liquor Control Board would mean to transfer the government owned business to the private sector with the objective of achieving greater economic efficiency and government revenues. Although there are both pros and cons when it comes to considering the privatization of the Liquor Control board of Ontario, this report shows why and how transferring the government owned organization to the private sector would be beneficial for both the public and government. There are many benefits for the public and the government when considering privatizing the Liquor Control Board of Ontario. The major reasons as to why the sale and distribution of liquor in Ontario would be better off privatized is because it would allow the federal and provincial government to generate greater revenue through taxes while not participating in the liquor sales itself. The privatization would also enhance consumer choice and service by decreasing alcohol prices and increasing product choices. Privatized liquor sales will also benefit the government by creating many business opportunities which will lead to many job opportunities as well. Most importantly the privatized sale of liquor in the province will drastically benefit the economy as a whole by increasing the GDP, GDP per capita as well as the free-market competition. There are many social and economic advantages for both the government and the public when it comes to privatizing the sale of liquor, in which case the government should take action towards transferring the government owned organization
