What Texas is Doing Right for Women

According to the 2019 State of Women-Owned Businesses Report, there were 1.2 million women-owned businesses in Texas, generating $208.9 billion in revenue and employing over 1 million people. However, this same report revealed information that shows that women-owned businesses face countless more challenges in comparison to men-owned businesses. Some of these challenges include limited access to capital, lack of business networks, and gender bias. This essay will discuss these significant setbacks that women are faced in terms of the workforce, and how there are strategies already set in place to promote the well-being and prosperity of women entrepreneurs n the state of Texas.

One of the things I wanted to discuss in this essay is regarding the data Dr. Voth supplied during the lecture on April 27 in terms of income inequality. He obtained this data from Our World in Data and what this information signaled was how the media, and professors in academia often push the idea that airs on the side of pessimism. This law prohibits companies and employers from paying men more than they pay women based on gender. Aside from the passing of this law, in 2019 the state passed the Texas Mother-Friendly Worksite program which essentially provides resources and support so that women have a more flexible environment allowing them to bring their kids to work at certain times to promote better work-life balance. This law forces companies to be more understanding with maternity leave and days off to care for their children if need
