There are many different Health Insurance plans offered to a variety of people in the United States. Though most people are covered by their employers, the government, or pay for their insurance on their own, there are still a number of people who are not insured. Insurance policies require you to pay a monthly premium whether or not you use it during the month. Along with paying your monthly premium you also are responsible for what is called a deductible on your medical bills. A deductible is the amount of money you must pay out of pocket that the insurance does not cover. Every Insurance plan is different on how much they will pay of the bill and how much you will be required to pay. Most of the time you will also have to pay a co pay. …show more content…

This is because the insurance company has an agreement with the facilities and it would cost you more money to go to a facility outside of the ones your insurance company is contracted with. ( Youtoons, explaining insurance) Insurance policies, even though available to most everyone, can be very expensive and have many limitations to them. Some people just cannot afford the monthly premium of the insurance plan that they need. This is why Obama created the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obama care. Obama care is offered to people who do not have the option of affordable insurance, their employer doesn’t offer insurance, and they do not qualify for Medicaid. The ACA gives these people the opportunity of having insurance by taking more money on taxes. (Youtoons, Obama Care) My personal insurance is held through the company that my father works for. Our insurance is an HMO, however the network of our insurance is so broad that we do not have to worry about going outside of our network. We also do not have any restrictions on physicians or hospitals that we can go to. Our monthly premium is between 400$-500$, with none of it being covered by his employer. However, my father’s employer gives us a lump sum of money at the beginning of each year to go into a health savings account, along with a decided percentage of my dads paycheck that we are able to use to pay for co payments, deductibles, medications, and other health related costs. We do have a family deductible that applies to all services we receive, along with a co payment for certain services. We are not required to pay co payments on OBGYN visits, mammograms, and because our insurance includes dental we are not required to pay co payments on cleanings or dental
