I was once the youngest person in the U.S. on death row. And I was innocent but my punishment is death. As a teenager on death row, I often had nightmares of my own execution. Even though I was innocent, death seemed very close to me, and my mind would light up with images of being strapped to a gurney, the sound of poison coming from a machine and being pushed through my veins. Four years after being sentenced to death and being on death row, I heard that the murder charge against me was being dropped. Now I can breathe and I am free from death until it is time for me to go on my own. Many people don’t really know how they feel about the death penalty, sometimes they are all for it but other times they think it is wrong. My opinion on the death penalty is it should only be conducted if the crime that was committed was a serial murder. “The death penalty first started in the Eighteenth Century B.C. in the Code of King Hammaurabi of Babylon, which arranged the death penalty to be legal for 25 different crimes. An eye for and eye is acceptable to most people, if someone is killed the murderer should be killed to they don’t deserve to live. The majority of the people that believe in the death penalty often think that many other crimes deserve to be charged with the death penalty. Gallup reported that, “60% of respondents said they support capital punishment, while opposition remained at 37%” (Gallup). Arguably, many people believe that no one should ever be killed by the state or government. They think that people are hypocrites because killing is wrong so now we are going to kill you, Brett Harrell said in a statement. “Many individuals have been wrongly convicted and sentenced to die.” “Life is sacred and every life has infinite value, but one's free will”
