What if the government covered your cost of living? What would you do with you extra time? Would you go back to work? Would you use your extra time more effectively? Would you follow your old broken dreams? What would you do? This idea is called a Universal Basic Income.

What is a way Americans get financial help from the government? Welfare is a type of way Americans can get help, but it is not effective at all. The concept of a welfare is for the government to protects citizens and provide help socially and economically. Instead, according to the Georgia Public Policy Foundation, welfare “creates a trap that is difficult to escape.” Indeed it does. Majority of the times, welfare comes with a lot of strings attached. It provides a source of income, but it controls one’s life too aggressively. According to Forbes, “As a household’s income approaches the poverty line and rises above it, families on various welfare programs can actually face effective marginal tax rates of 50 or 60 percent.” This means that a family that is gaining a high salary will lose more money due to welfare. Welfare traps you in a box, and you can lose that extra source of income if you make more money. Once one overcome the poverty line, one would lose more money without the welfare assistance than with the welfare assistance.
