Since the end of the Cold War, the United States has had the world’s largest, highest trained, and best equipped military. Once the United States hit the top, it kept on going. As of 2015, the federal spending budget for the military was 598.5 billion dollars. That is 54% of federal spending each year spent on the military. With that amount of money coming in each year, the military should have already developed consistent methods of stopping an enemy nuclear strike, or produce robot soldiers so American lives will not be lost.

What Are the Pros and Cons of Military Spending? As the US economy tanked, the banks have been bailing out and the country losing its jobs, its military spending has continued to grow. For the past years, it is recorded to have increased more than 100%, which is very high compared to the height of Ronald Reagan’s presidency and the Cold War. The money allocated for the defense budget is used to purchase sophisticated weapons that often do not make it into production, but when they do, they are just too expensive to maintain.

Military grade weapons are made for one reason and one reason only—to kill human beings. There is no reason for ordinary people to have access to this type of weaponry, especially semi-automatic rifles. More weapons, especially more semi-automatic weapons, does not mean less crime; semi-automatic weapons are not convenient for personal protection, and banning these weapons could help lower the number of mass shootings that occur in this country today. In 2016 alone, approximately 39,000 Americans were killed by guns, most of these deaths were caused by semi-automatic weapons (Lopez).

If soldiers get more money for their services than people would join the army, not to fight for our country, but for the money. Soldiers would also get greedy with the money they get and lose concentration in the line of fire, and frankly soldiers don't need the extra cash. The government supplies lots of things after their retirement. The government supplies a very good retirement plan for those veterans that are retired. The things include: free medical care, free rent, and free food.
People just need to support the military and to support the actions of the military. If they do this then the US will continue to have the most powerful military in the world, and if they have the most powerful military in the world and the children of tomorrow will have the freedom that they deserve. The military protects us everyday. It’s time for the people of America to give back to our great military. Mandatory military service will bankrupt to U.S. and send her into a state of crisis and people don’t have the money to donate or give to a new tax.
