Protecting Americans Against Guns. The lack of gun-control laws is the cause of the massive amount of violent crimes in the United States. To protect the people of the United States, restrictions and laws should be put in place involving guns. The number one cause of death in children in the United States is gun-related deaths, thousands of people a year are dying at the other end of a gun. A solution needs to be put in place before we lose any more people to gun violence.

Children, teens, adults, the innocent, and the guilty are all affected by gun violence. Because of guns thousands of Americans are scared they may be the next life taken. In no circumstance should the children of The United States be scared to go to school knowing that they may very well not make it home because some person was able to have access to a gun and take the life of people when they had no business having a gun. It's not only children there are adults in The United States that are scared to go to concerts, stores, or anywhere where there is a large crowd. Gun violence has affected every person in The United States. Gun Violence Archive is a database that keeps the data on all gun-related violence since 2014. According to Gun Violence Archives, there have been 8,499 deaths from gun violence in The United States so far this year. Of those 8,499 deaths, 334 of them have been children from the age of 0-17, with another 830 children injured. (Gun Violence Archive). Due to guns, almost 9,000 people have died solely in The United States. Not only has it affected the people who died or were injured, it has also affected the family and friends of those who have lost their lives due to guns. So many young people have died due to guns as Jonathan Masters has told us “Gun violence is the leading cause of death for children and young adults in the United States”(Jonathan …show more content…

Establishing stricter gun control laws has effectively shown that making these laws makes a positive impact on the number of deaths by guns. CNN’s Kara Fox, Krystina Shveda, Natalie Croker. and, Marco Chacon has made a diagram to show the impact. They have shown in Australia that since 1996 when they put the National Firearms Agreement, the number of deaths went from just over 600 to just over 200. Similar to Australia, South Africa established the 2000 Firearms Control Act and the number of deaths went from 8,000 to around 3,000 in 19 years (Fox et al.). They were able to give us enough information for us to see that throughout history gun-control laws have been able to decrease the number of deaths due to guns. The number of deaths isn’t going to drastically change right away, South Africa was a show of that, it took 19 years to decrease gun-related deaths by 5,000 people. Jonathan Masters has given information about the United States and other countries and what they do to prevent gun violence. Masters introduced Canada’s gun control in comparison to the United States “Gun ownership is also relatively high in Canada…but the country does not struggle with a similar level of gun violence…Canada’s national government sets gun restrictions” (Jonathan Masters). Countries are still able to have a high amount of guns with a low amount of deaths like Canada but only if there are restrictions
