In discussions of mass shootings and gun violence, one controversial issue has been having stronger regulation of gun control. People who believe that gun control should be more regulated claim that with stronger laws for gun control, there will be less gun-related deaths. On the other hand, there are those who believe people have the second amendment right to bear arms. However, with more gun control there will be a decrease in the frequency of gun-related deaths. If gun control is more regulated, it is highly likely we would be living in a safer environment. With more gun control laws, there would be a reduction in gun deaths such as suicide, homicide, and unintentional deaths. From 1999 to 2013, there were 464,033 deaths caused by guns (gun-control.procon.org). This is a worrying statistic, as it shows how many lives have been taken at the hand of guns. High-capacity magazines should be banned as they can turn murder into a mass murder. An investigation showed that high-capacity magazines were used in at least 50% of the 62 mass shootings between 1982 and 2012 (gun-control.procon.org). It can be argued that if those perpetrators did not have access to military-grade weapons, there would be a large reduction in deaths caused by the gun during an attempted mass shooting. When high-capacity magazines were used in mass shootings, the death rate rose by 63% and the injury rate rose 156% (gun-control.procon.org). It could be safely assumed that if military-grade weapons were not used, death and injury rates would have decreased.
