I am going to be discussing a couple of things about Psalms 23 and Psalms 2. First I am going to talk about Psalms 23. I am going to discuss what I think the psalms mean, and what message the author may have been trying to convey. I am also going to talk about my opinion on Psalms 23. I will also do this with Psalms 2. “The Lord is my shepherd”. This is the first line I am going to discuss of Psalms 23. This part of the first line discusses the metaphor of the psalm, that god is our shepherd, our protector and guide. He helps us with all the things we need like finding food, water, work, love, friends and anything else we may need. He also protects us from evil. During our long journey we may encounter some difficult paths, but God will always be with us. So we should not be afraid to move forward. “Thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me”. Shepherds in the past would carry a rod and a staff to guide the sheep and to fight off wolves or other predators that would try attack and eat the sheep. The meaning of this is that God in his own way also has a rod and his staff, they may not be physical or material but he possess his own version. We may get prodded or pushed, at times, but ultimately it is for our own good. It may be for our own protection and to keep us on the righteous path. “Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies”. This is a very interesting line to me. I think it implies that you will encounter foes, adversity, or other people that do not want you to continue your journey or travels. It also states that you will be safe with god even in the midst of your enemies or foes. It does not just say you will survive. It says that a table or a feast will be spread before you, even while you are in the presence of those forces that oppose you. This, indeed, is a wonderful thought to be
