I have loved living on my own, reading hundreds of pages on Aquinas and the Pseudographica, researching the literary history of Martian science fiction, staying up late wrestling bugs out of Tetris code, writing scripts for robotics research, and working to digitize thousands of alumni archives. College is something that I enjoy and am doing well – it it the specific college, and not academics, that is prompting me to transfer. My goal is not to radically change my path, but to continue with my successes in a place that is more conducive to the life I want to lead. I am hoping to take classes somewhere that will uphold and surpass the academic challenges I am used to. I was drawn to it originally because of its exciting location, dedication to service, strong computer science program, and relationship with Silicon Valley. These are the same things that are drawing me back to it. Its strong academics will maintain my record of a challenging course load, while a life in vibrant San Francisco will provide a very different environment than rural South Hadley. Its commitment to social justice and involved learning aligns with my own goals for education. I am particularly looking forward to joining the Foghorn newspaper, taking courses in comparative literature, and offering my assistance to the CS4SF program. Accessible community and cultural events, paired with the professional preparation and research opportunities of the Colleges of Arts and Sciences, are the changes that USF can offer and that I believe would make my college experience more rewarding.
