The three careers I chose to examine were IT Security Administrator, Forensics Investigator, and Obstetrician Gynecologist. I chose these careers because I discovered that the employment rates for these jobs are expected to grow at a faster than average 37% from 2012-2022. This is because data security threats are growing and with more digital technology rising, more organizations have become victims of cyber crimes. The other career is what I want to be. Internet Security Administrators, also known as computer security specialists, or Internet security specialists, protect computer systems against attack.
The career choice that I made and had caught my interest is in the dentistry field, practically in the orthodontic profession. Why the interest in this career choice you may want to inquire, is actually going in for visits as my child started the process for her braces. As I sat there watching the process happening, from the photographs taken of her mouth to the x-rays taken to be sent and the tools that were being used, just simply caught my attention. I thought to myself, “hmm this is something I could be good at”. And as the visits continued, I grew more fond as to what the orthodontic assistant was doing, how she was doing it and how the work was being proceeded with materials/tools.
In my opinion, I would like to focus on a career that is enjoyable, productive, creative and simultaneously allows you to work for the betterment of humanity. I have always wanted to work in a Health profession. I enjoy working with people and I like the team atmosphere approach of a dental office. Dental hygiene is becoming an exciting career as dental laws are changing and the role of the hygienist is increasing regarding patient care.
The career field that I have chosen to go into is the medical field. In the medical field I would like to become a dental hygienist. The background that I have on dental hygienist is that you exam gums, clean teeth, and teach about oral care. The research that I have already done on this profession is a dental hygienist annual salary and required hour of work. Some more research I utilized is how many years of college are needed, what you do while at work, and if you work by yourself or who you work with.
It was under the most delicate of circumstances, when I realized what I was born to do for the rest of my life. It was march 2007, my grandfather was suffering from pneumonia and due to his deteriorating condition he was hospitalized. I had flown in from Toronto to be by his side. Sitting anxiously by his bedside with tears in my eyes wondering if I could do anything to make my grandfather feel better, I watched doctors come and go , updating us on his blood reports, EKGs, chest x-rays, ABGs, and at the same time constantly counseling my concerned family members. As they explained what they were doing to bring my grandfather to the path of recovery, I watched in utter fascination.
The path of my dream occupation has been relatively linear. I’ve known since I could ever remember that I wanted to be in the medical field. My grandmother was a nurse and I think her compassion for helping others rubbed off on me. I always looked up to her, so I consider working in the medical field to be continuing her legacy.
Maya Angelou once stated, “My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style” (Angelou). Being passionate and thriving in a career is essential for me to stay motivated and to be able to enjoy my time at work. Throughout my life I have always really liked science and math, and I enjoy the ocean. I have also been very passionate about animals and I would love to help them and protect their habitats. Becoming a veterinarian or marine biologist would allow me to be satisfied going to work each day because they both incorporate my interests.
The career I have chosen has to do with criminal justice. Criminal justice is something that 's always seemed to grab my attention. It 's something I feel I was born to be interested in. I really enjoy helping others in any way so I figured why not pursue a career as a probation officer. Not only will I be helping others, but I will be preventing an offender from repeating the same mistake.
One of my passions is social justice. I accredit my social justice education to social media, which when used right, can be a wonderful platform to amplify the voices of marginalized groups of people. From a young age I positioned myself as an advocate for the underdogs. In high school, I helped found a Gay-Straight Alliance, I wanted to address LGBTQ+ bullying in my school. Bullying was a problem because no one would talk about the specific group of students it was largely directed at.
The things I find interesting are those that are creative and engage the imagination and also engages the mind and heart. Because of this my interests range from the fine arts such as art, dance, music, literature and theatre to books on self- help and spirituality. My interests are what engage and capture me as a whole. My overarching career goal is to be a successful musical theatre performer. I hope to achieve this by learning as much as I can, and giving everything I have to the art form.
Career Interests Report I. Career and Interest Self-assessment Results After completing the forms to find out my RIASEC score I was a little surprised to find out it is investigative. The next highest score was artistic which was not much of a surprise as I see myself in that one. Under the investigative heading I found a few jobs that I would be interested in. I found jobs that I would like as fire inspection, sociologist, electrician, therapist, and others (O-net occupations master, 2000).
They spend a lot of time working and really submerging themselves in their work. They have a pretty high and fair payment amount, so they will be good on money. TASKS/RESPONSIBILITIES Forensic psychologist partake in the form of using psychology to solve crimes and really look at what a person has to be like to commit such a crime.
In five years, I hope to be in college, studying about something I'm interested in. I want to get into a good college with a great psychology program where I can learn enough about it so I can turn it into a progression. One thing I've noticed is that it's hard to find a hobby which is directly related to psychology, unlike other professions where your hobbies can be very similar to what you would be doing in that job. I believe that given the environment I was born into, where I have had to help many people to get through tough periods in their lives, I could be a good psychologist. This being my reality, I have grown to enjoy listening to people’s problems and difficulties and trying to help them to the best of my abilities.
There’s a lot of confusion about the science of psychology. The simplest definition of psychology is that it is the study of the mind and behavior. Unfortunately several misconceptions about psychology flourish and a part of the confusion comes from the stereotypical portrayals of psychologists by the media. Psychology is both an applied and academic field that studies the human mind and behavior. Research psychology seeks to understand and explain how we think, act and feel.
I have always been unsure when it comes to a choosing a career for myself. Whether it be a nurse, a doctor, a counselor, or even an engineer, I have never been able to come to a compromise on the “right” career path. One thing that has always been clear to me is that whatever career I choose in the future, I want to be able to impact a person 's life everyday. Recently, I have been thinking about what profession could help me accomplish this lifelong goal, and I have come to a decision. The career path I have chosen is a degree in psychology.
