Week One Learning Dania Johnson Keiser University Week One Learning Since I started Introduction to Psychology with Professor Collins. I have already learned so much. We started off in chapters 1 and 3. Chapter one was the basic overview of psychology. Chapter 3 is about human development. For this week, I am going to be explaining what I learned such as what is psychology, what are the goals of psychology, different types of psychologist also growing up in adolescents and the stages of death and dying. Description is naming or classifying a detailed record of a scientific observation (Coon & Mitterer, 2016 p.19). When you are using the description part it is more “what?” Such as what is wrong with this behavior (Coon & Mitterer, 2016 p.19). Understanding is being able to state the causes of the behavior (Coon & Mitterer, 2016 p.19). When you are understanding it is more “why?” Such as why does this behavior happen (Coon & Mitterer, 2016 p.19). Prediction is the ability to accurately forecast behavior (Coon & Mitterer, 2016 p.19). When you are in predicating is it focused on “when?” Such as when will the next behavior happen (Coon & Mitterer, 2016 p.19). Lastly is control, control is altering conditions that influence behavior (Coon & Mitterer, 2016 p.19). Most people reach reproductive maturity in their early teens, while as social and intellectual maturity could take longer to appear (Coon & Mitterer, 2016 p.110). When it comes to boys maturing early it’s helpful, it helps with self- image, gives them more insight and knowledge over the other boys of their age group (Coon & Mitterer, 2016 p.110). The boys are relaxed, self-confident (Coon & Mitterer, 2016 p.110). While as in girls it’s a totally different story. When a girl matures faster than the other girls of her age she is looked down upon, she is an outcast and have low self-esteem (Coon & Mitterer, 2016 p.110). But by the time the girls get to middle school being fully developed helps with self-image, and helps them become independent (Coon & Mitterer, 2016 p.110). The Search of Identity When puberty hits its peak the question then occurs who am I and who am I going to be (Coon & Mitterer, 2016 p.110). Seeking for identity can be stressful.
