“The only tired I was, was tired of giving in.”. A quote made by Rosa Parks that sparked The Civil Rights Movement, and that changed the lives of all Americans forever. People of this movement believed that there could be a greater country, one where there was equality for every person, no matter the color that tinted their skin.
The question is why? What’s the reason for this movement that changed an entire natation completely? Let’s take a step back before. The origin of the civil rights movement dates back all the way to the civil war. Since then, African Americans have been trying to get their full freedom, equality, and worth as any other person. Thus, what sparked “the birth of this movement” (Movement.” 2018), that put things into motion? Marches, protests, and speeches were held. “Even though all the protests were peaceful, police and troops still brutally attacked” (Steele 21). One of the biggest attacks was on March 7th, in Selma, Alabama. Troops were vehemently attacking five hundred- twenty-five peaceful activists making their way from Selma to the state capital to honor the killing of an innocent man. Even when they were beaten down, they spirit never came down. The vastest march that took place was the “Great March of Freedom”, there were three-hundred thousand people marching along the streets of Detroit, Michigan. Africans Americans who were once scared of fighting for their cause, and just a few months later thousands of thousands came for Martin Luther King Jr. speech, “I have a dream”.
