Sports teams in North America have started to put something on their uniforms, ads. Companies pay for ads or commercials to inform people about their company or product. In the 2017-2018 season, the NBA switched from Adidas to Nike and 19 out of the 30 teams have put ads on their jerseys. This could be the beginning of a new trend in North American leagues. In the mid 1800’s, companies started to put ads in newspapers. Since then, many companies have purchased for ads or commercials to be put or aired. Ads really do help companies because it could catch the eye of someone who wasn’t even looking for your company or product. AT&T stadium in Arlington, is the largest NFL stadium with 80,000 seats, and the Bell Centre in Montreal, is the largest NHL arena with 21,228 seats. These large capacities offer a big stage for these companies to be recognized weather it’s on the jumbotron or sign. Some teams have had ads on jerseys and people have been talking about if there should be ads on all sports jerseys. In most European sports leagues(hockey,soccer,basketball, etc.), teams have ads as the crest of the jersey. Some people say it’s bad because the logo should be the first and biggest thing you see on a jersey, not a small little patch by the shoulder that has the team’s name on it. In some leagues, the ads are very subtle, in others they are obnoxious and can stand out more than the uniform
