Queens Library will utilize its contextualized ESOL healthcare curriculum along with the Cuny Career Kit to deliver instruction to intermediate and advanced English language learners level (corresponding to NRS levels 3-4) to advanced (corresponding to NRS level 5-6) and to help them attain a high intermediate score on the Best Plus 2.0 oral assessment The Queens Library contextualized curriculum provides 200 hours of contextualized healthcare training and employment. The curriculum should serve as a bridge to the Home Health Aid and Certified Nursing Assistant trainings. Program Pathway Recruitment, Outreach and Advertising:
The recruitment process will employ multipronged approve to reach potential participants. Queen Library will recruit candidates for this program from their existing ESL classes and the general public, and screen them for the contextualized healthcare training. The recruitment process will include the following elements:
• Building an outcomes‐based outreach effort focusing on a recruitment message that demonstrates to prospective participants the value of enrolling and completing the program.
• Conduct information sessions that help participants to understand the nature of the healthcare jobs, explanation of how a contextualized program works, and pathways to trainings.
• Creation of effective materials to promote program, including an effective landing page and web presence.
• Search engine optimization that will lead potential participants directly to the programs page on the Queens
Library website.
• Extensive outreach at community fairs and meetings to provide face‐to‐face interaction geared …show more content…

The first assessment point using Best Plus 2.0 will be during the pre-screening process. The initial assessment is a one on one interview where each candidate is given a verbal test that measure speaking and listening skills. The second assessment point using Best Plus 2.0 is at the end of the program. Here participants are given a follow-up oral interview to gauge improvements in speaking and listening skills.

Additionally, the ESL instructor will provide formative assessments in the form of in class discussions, weekly quizzes and homework assignments. Formative assessments tools will be used in combination with summative assessments to evaluate student learning, knowledge, proficiency, or success at the conclusion of each topic / unit. Summative assessments are almost always formally graded and often heavily weighted (though they do not need to be). Summative assessment will include unit specific exams and final cumulative test.

Upon completion of English language classes and healthcare training participants will be eligible to take the New York State Certified Nursing Assistant Exam or the Home Health Aide Exam.
