A “Great Being” from The Outsiders, by S.E. Hinton, is a Darry. Darry is a “Great Being” because he/she shows the trait of being selfless. For instance, you will now introduce the first example of your character trait #1 of your Great Being from the novel. “He thought Darry worked too hard anyway. I did, too. Darry didn't deserve to work like an old man when he was only twenty. But we just didn't have the money for him to go to college, even with the athletic scholarship he won. He gave up a college scholarship so that he could look after them. He did this so that his brothers would not be sent to a foster home and get separated, he did it so that the family could stay together. He gave up education to work multiple jobs so that he could provide for them. His sacrifice emphasizes his care and responsibility to stay with his brothers. Darry also shows the characteristic trait of protectiveness. This character trait is seen when ___(example)___. “I reckon it never occurred to you that your brothers might be worrying their heads off and afraid to call the police because something like that could get you two thrown in a boys’ home so quick it’d make your head spin.
