As a city, we must acknowledge the difficulties that have been brought upon us. The city of Indianapolis has been facing inequality and we must address the issue. We are certainly not the only city to acknowledge this fact, but I have created a report to learn about the underlying structures of inequality among everyone, not just Indianapolis. Some underlying structure's that I believe play a major role are race, gender, and class. Race is the most widely recognized reason for inequality amongst people. When you hear someone talk about inequality you most often begin to think about race and racism. Racism is being prejudiced towards a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior. Anthropologist understanding of racism is that it is a structural issue of inequality, not a question of one's individual attitude. People believe that doing a certain thing could be considered too masculine or feminine. As we view gender roles being performed all around us, we learn to perform those same roles when it is our turn. These ways make gender seem taught, learned, and enforced. Gender plays a role in a variety of activities in jobs and sports. Women in certain jobs have been earning less pay than a man working the same job. Women are fighting to have this pay gap fixed. Children are often not allowed to participate in sports due to their gender and the gender norms. Sports like baseball, football, and basketball have all favored boy participants (Guest 2018, 181-182). Gender may often be regarded on a personal basis.
