Rachel McKee is a twenty-seven-year-old recent graduate with a degree in health administration with an emphasis in marketing and planning. She recently got hired at Community Medical Centers, which is a large health care organization in central California. Rachel took the position as an assistant director of strategic planning and marketing. Her boss Lindsey Chadwick gave her the duty of performing an environmental assessment. One of the most important internal forces in the organization is the strengths. Some of the strengths that Community Medical Centers has is they are one of only two healthcare systems in the service area. Also, they have more beds in than the competing hospital in the area, but they are also in the works of expanding their organization. They are looking to open an ICU which will have an additional 160 beds, and opening a neonatal department. Additionally, Community Medical Center is known for their affiliation they have with the medical schools that are nearby. These few of many strengths that Community Medical Center has lets them prepare for any threats. Another important internal force that the organization has is some weaknesses. Community Medical Center has a lot of strengths, but in turn they do have some weaknesses. One of the weakness they do face is where they are located. They are located in the heart of Fresno, California. Fresno is known to be one of the poorest counties in the state and that means most of its patients have Medicaid. Also, even though they are the biggest healthcare facility their beds are at 68% capacity at most times during certain times of the year. With their beds being at capacity this means that patients are having longer wait times, and taking longer for them to see a doctor. Community Medical Center also has a shortage of doctors and specialties, and the current doctors don’t want to recruit anymore doctors into the organization. With Community Medical Center have a shortage of specialties this means the referrals are being outsourced. The patients are being referred to other physician-owned practices. These weaknesses are leaning Community Medical Center open to vulnerability for patients to seek care elsewhere.
