In this essay I will be defining the concept of diversity management, as well as using organisational examples to help explain diversity management and discussing different types of discrimination at the workplace.
“Diversity management refers to the voluntary organizational actions that are designed to create greater inclusion of employees from various backgrounds into the formal and informal organizational structures through deliberate policies and programs.” (Austlii.edu.au, 2015)

The BBC made a different approach to boost the representation of black, Asian and minority ethnic people on and off screen. A comedian called Lenny Henry led a campaign for more diversity in the media in 2014. 6% of the people working within the media are from ethnic minorities compared to the UK population which is 14%. These staff are leaving the BBC quicker than other staff, on average 6.1 years they ethnic minorities last. In the BBC 4.4% are disabled and 3.4% of senior posts are held by people with disabilities. This shows it must not be comfortable working environment to work in, or they don’t feel in place working there when they should feel very appreciated working at the BBC. Each market has its own cultural preferences and sensitivities so having a diverse team are more likely to be more creative than a group of identical individuals, as to they would hold different attitudes and perspectives.
