Parents in this time (1950-1960’s) were very much involved with their children listening to music. They paid much attention to what their children watched on television and on the radio. There was a sense of direction in music. The reason they were liked this is because it took you away from the world, people had to use the imagination because there was no visual, everything was visualized through listening. Many experienced happiness with the radio. It bring happiness to friends and family. Before television came out, people had to listen to musical programs through radio. Some of Eddie’s favorite programs were Batman, Long Ranger, The Shadow and Ellery Queen (a detective show). These shows came on early evening between 5pm and 10pm. …show more content…

One of the big commercials played on the radio was implemented just for men. This product was called Bryl Cream. Bryl Cream was a cream for men hair. It helped lay the hair down. Another commercial was Ready Kilowatt, this was advertisement for lightbulbs. There was no real public concerns for commercial. This was just how people communicated back in the early 1950-1960’s. Most of the information transferred from the radio was news, songs, sales, television shows and weather. Another program to remember was an educational radio program. This was the only educational program on the radio. It was done by high school students and they would compete with different schools. Student would answering question on air and the one with the most points would win. Radio had some good and bad qualities. While it was entertainment, it did have a tency to lose connection a lot. There were some technical problems with radio programs, mostly with the antenna’s use to get a clear connection for listening on certain stations. It would have a lot if static, most of the time he said “people had to add alumni foil to the antenna to get a clear reception.” The memories were good, because this was when families and friends gather the most. Eddie’s one memory was from Christmas, he said, “they always got round the radio and listen to music and holiday programs together.” This all changed when FM radio became available there was more programs and people was able to listen
