My name is Raksmey Houn and I am a four-year student at California State University, Los Angeles. I transferred from East Los Angeles College in the fall semester of 2016. My academic goal is to finish school with a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration with the option in Accounting and a minor in Real Estate with high grades. My career goals would be to obtain the Certified Public Accountant within five years and to become a skilled and successful accountant and eventually move into management. I have a plan in a place for getting certified in the CPA after I graduate in the next year. I have already taken some credits required of me to qualify for the CPA. LLC, funded by The United State Agency for International Development (USAID) in Cambodia, my home country. I held the position for three years before coming to the United States about 7 years ago. I am a mother of two young boys. I spent much of my time raising the boys and now that they are in elementary school, I have more time to pursue my degree and career. I am a full-time student now and I am currently a volunteer income tax assistant (VITA) program. I spend my days studying and looking for part-time work to gain more experience. I am the analytical type and love to work with numbers. I like to meet more people when I can. I set myself a goal of learning something new every day. Since coming here, I have learned about new foods, culture, technology and ways of life. I feel more productive. I believe that learning and working are important for a happy and successful life. I am a United States citizen now but my English is not perfect. I know that may put me at a slight disadvantage but that is why I put in extra effort in improving my communication skills and work-related skills.
