Being a leader can be a tough role for anyone to take on. There are many different qualities and characteristics of a great leader. The book Lord of the Flies by William Golding shows good examples of what a great leader is supposed to be and do. In this book it tells the story of young boys whose plane crash landed onto an island. The boys are forced to ban together and try to survive hopefully long enough to be rescued. A leader is chosen among the boys and he has to show everyone that he has the right characteristics that a leader should have so he can earn their respect and trust. The name of the leader that was chosen is Ralph. Ralph is a very likeable guy which is a really good thing when you’re a leader and trying to give orders to a group of people. William Golding basically makes it obvious at the beginning that Ralph was a boy who has many qualities of a leader. Ralph is described as a more popular and attractive looking boy who gets along with everyone. If you show that you actually care about someone then they become more willing to listen and follow you. Ralph is nice to pretty much everyone and the other boys respect him. They are willing to listen to him and they know that what he’s saying will help them survive. Ralph also does something that all great leaders should do. He organizes meetings with all the boys to talk about what’s going on. At these meetings a sea shell known as the conch is used to make sure that when the person that has the conch is talking everyone should stay quiet and listen. I like this and think that a great leader should listen to people’s thoughts and ideas. Letting the people have a chance to throw out their ideas and talk about things makes them feel like you care about them so they would respect you more for
