Who says Randomcore Humor is Dead? Many times, companies that produce ads struggle to provide content that viewers can connect with, as they perceive people differently to how people see themselves. Personally, my favorite advertisements are ones with random elements added to them in a humorous way. The information is presented in a unique way that is more effective in making me want to purchase products than any other type of advertisement. A good example of a company that makes effective ads like this would be Old Spice. I don’t personally use Old Spice products, but advertisements put out by this company are always memorable. They always star famous actors in strange advertisements that make little to no logical sense. Old Spice has a way of showing that it’s a positive thing for their viewers to embrace their strangeness, and this is actually effective. Their line of ads, released on YouTube, star Isaiah Mustafa and Terry Crews in many strange situations. Using recognizable celebrities appeals to the concept that people are comfortable with familiarity. Despite these accuracies, the company likely sees their viewers as potential sales, which is not uncommon in companies that wish to sell more products. Old Spice employs people whose sole purpose at the company is to keep up with societal trends, and report popular things to the company. By doing this, Old Spice is able to release advertisements that can follow these societal trends.
