Introduction For assignment four, Entering Assets into the Learning Management System, my chosen curriculum was Reading and Writing 504. Reading and Writing 504 is a course designed to help build reading and writing skills. I envisioned creating a course that was simple but one that students will learn from and will gain better understanding of the importance of reading and writing. As a teacher, I feel that reading and writing is very important and should begin at an early age. Reading, writing, and literacy skills serve an authentic communicative purpose. (Ruppar, 2014) Children should be introduced to reading material, such as story books, as early as infancy. Writing skills can begin as soon as a child can grip a writing utensil. This question is a great start to get a feel of everyone’s insight on their outlook of reading and writing. I also posted a video about the importance of reading and writing. It was an interesting video that was attention grabbing with the graphics, music, and important information and facts. The final assignment was to read a short essay and take the quiz on it. A lack of reading in courses is detrimental to both student learning and course engagement. (Tropman, 2014) Student participation is one way to know whether the course is effective or not. Teachers can use insight from the students to find out their interests pertaining to the course. This is a good method for collaboration between the instructor and students. Keeping the course agile would include inspection and adaption of the actual course, teamwork, accountability, aligning needs and goals with actual course work and providing a high-quality online class. If students feel that you do not expect much out of them then they will not put forth much effort especially if the students have taken previous online courses where much work was required and there was a set standard of high expectations. Research shows that students that have not taken many online courses feel that having clearly stated guidelines is very important. (Hixon&Barczyk, 2016) Students that are experienced in online courses rated self-introductions, assessment appropriateness, instructional materials, clarity of interaction requirements, ease of navigation and availability of required technologies as most important. (Hixon&Barczyk, 2016) Taking into consideration the thoughts and needs of students that are experienced in online courses and less experienced, I would incorporate items from both if I had to create another online course. I would definitely include self-introductions which I am used to completing in every course that I take online. The course would be well-rounded if I incorporated items of importance that were listed by the experienced and less experienced online
