Reality is not what it is thought to be and has most likely been altered by all of the people one talks to throughout their life. Reality in 1984 is confusing, but over does the party have control over reality? The party does have control over reality. Big Brother has control over what one perceives as reality so that person, or those people, reality is being controlled despite the true reality not being what Big Brother says. That being the case, reality as one perceives it is able to be controlled, therefore reality is able to be controlled by Big Brother.
While the physical reality of the world does not change as Big Brother voices ideas, Big Brother still control over reality. This is not a case of what is the physical reality but this is how people see reality. If people do not see reality for what is truly is and instead just see the image portrayed by Big Brother then that image is their reality. It is about how Big Brother controls input into people’s lives and so what they believe is to be reality is not what true reality is but it is their reality. The …show more content…

One example of this is how Winston was forced into seeing what Big Brother wanted him to see through means of torture. Big Brother had gotten in his head throughout the time he was in jail and they changed his perception of reality and how he viewed the world and all in it. Big Brother got in Winston’s head and changed what he could think and changed what he thought was reality over time. Big Brother also controls how people get their media and what they get as their media. They change what they say to make it seem like people are better off now than they were yesterday despite it actually being worse, such as the deal with the chocolate rations.
