Reflection On My Writing

Writing an essay takes practice, perseverance, and time. Recently, I wrote and essay which analyzed a book called The Pearl and had to use all of my experience. The essay I wrote was a little over 900 words and required me to examine roles of women in The Pearl. In roughly a week, I finished the assignment and spent the rest of my time reviewing and revising the paper. My final paper did not take as much work or time that I expected. However, I still sharpened my time management skills, learned the power of peer and professor review, and developed a sense for self revision. Of all skills, I cultivated time management the most. Through a service called Smarthinking I submitted my writing to different college professors who reviewed and critiqued my paper. Their input helped me discern the issues in my writing and bestowed invaluable lessons of literature. Smarthinking’s multiple professors furthermore exemplified the potential in different opinions. Each professor contributed their own unique insights I would not have discovered myself. After adjusting accordingly with the college instructors, I found further value in peer review. When I showed my friends my paper, they were able to point out particular issues that were less formal or involved simple dilemmas. These issues were completely overlooked by me and not mentioned by the professors. Yet, even those simple fixes changed my paper’s quality for the better. Not only did my peers review my paper, but I read their papers to asses where I stood relative to the average. Each paper I read revealed strengths and weaknesses in my own writing. Then, with a new perspective I was able to edit my own writing with more styles and ideas in mind. Granting my classmates empowered my writing, I benefitted my classmates
