AP Scholar with Honor Award, it was presented to me for having completed a rigorous series of college-level courses and exams. President 's Education Award Program was awarded to me during ninth grade for my outstanding academic achievements. University Interscholastic League Scholar Award was presented to me for the Number Sense competition where my team won second place over all.
Pursuing a degree with APUS is the next big step to furthering my education and starting a career. I have children. I 'm a mother of four and I always wanted what was best for them. I had to make certain decisions and scafices for them and not going to college is one.
The Benefits of Taking AP Classes in High School Why spend hours doing homework in college, when you could have done it in high school? “The Advanced Placement program has revolutionized high school classrooms around the United States. The program offers rigorous, college-level education to motivated students, and offers the benefit of college credit.” (Mattimore A33).
I am competitive; I look for the chance to run the extra mile. My competitive nature has aided in everything I commit myself to. Regardless if I am participating in a sporting event, competing for a solo in a musical production, or preparing for a final, I will indubitably devote my time and efforts to perform as well as possible. I take every opportunity that is presented to me and attempted to better not only myself but my community as well. I am confident that the Honors College at the College of Charleston will enable me to devote my attention to my studies, become actively involved within campus activities and academic assemblies, and offer my time and abilities to charitable events and organizations.
In life, you can go through a lot but only a few people actually can bounce back. In High School I’ve gone through many trials and tribulations to get to the point I’m at now. I’ve been held to high standards based on the classes I’ve taken. My Honors classes built the foundation for me to start challenging myself and kill the procrastination problem I possessed in my young academic career. The Honors classes prepared me for the Advanced Placement classes that were offered.
I came into my first college writing class feeling prepared thanks to you and your investment in me as a student in your AP Lang class. I developed as a writer more than I ever had in your class, and it definitely helped me in my college writing class this semester. I already knew how important it was to revise and continuously critically think about my writing, as well as the importance of multiple drafts and peer review. My English 110 class this semester was very similar to yours because we also did multiple drafts where I could revise my paper as many times as needed. The big difference was that the focus was on different genres and how to appeal to those, which was something new compared to my high school English courses.
Writing skills are very important. Everyone will have an encounter with writing at some point, and most of us do on a daily basis. I would share what I have learned with my husband. My husband is also in school, and with our busy schedules we are always rushing to get our work done. I can share the tips that I have learned with him.
This third quarter of AP Language & Composition was quite similar but also different in ways compared to the previous semester. Having already experienced half a school year of the class, I was already aware of the expectations and the work requirements needed. One big difference in approach was how I brainstormed for ideas. Last semester, most of our writing was rather formulaic and didn’t rely much on creativity and chose the most convenient topic for the task. However, this semester’s focus on satirical writing was quite different in how we chose a subject and approached the satire.
Throughout my time at Fairfield Prep, I have not only grown spiritually, but I have also developed as a student becoming “intellectually competent”. This does not mean that before I entered Fairfield Prep as a freshman I was not intelligent; instead, it suggests I had not yet mastered the ability to think critically and logically. These skills were honed and improved as a result of style of learning Fairfield Prep has offered me over the last four years. Rather than simply lecturing to their students, teachers at Prep provide their students with the information needed and allow for them to self-discover before interjecting and teaching about the subject at hand. This allows for the students to think critically and draw parallels between the various facts.
Throughout preparing for the Odyssey Course, there were many unknowns and anxieties to process and consider. Never having done a course like this, or having to rely on my classmates for support in any setting other than the classroom, it was easy to consider Challenge by Choice and opt out and save myself a lot of stress. Even though I had some uncertainty, I decided to step outside of my comfort zone and engage fully by participating in the course and a learning experience in an environment that I knew was specifically designed to keep me safe. As a result of this course, I learned a lot about processing as a group and working through some of my personal boundaries. Upon arriving to the course, I noticed many of my classmates were utilizing
Going into my senior year, I believed the year would be really easygoing and I’d be able to slack off a lot, even though I did have calculus. AP Calculus was taught by Ms. Karcher, who, by the end of the year, came to become one of my favorite teachers and even helped influence my career in secondary math. I should have known that the class would be a lot of work, especially when we had to finish a math workbook by the end of the summer before the class even started, but I brushed it off. The first part of the class really got to me, because she assigned so much work, but by the end of the year, I knew she just wanted us to do well on the end of the year exams.

Academic success to me is achieving good grades and understanding the material to get good grades. Academic success also means to have an good attendance. I already get mostly A’s and B’s, but I am not good at staying on top of things. To improve my academic success I will attend class more often, be more organized, pay attention in class, and not procrastinate.
Not only was I proud of what I learned in those classes, but I was recognized and rewarded for it as well. My goal could be achieved; my hard work could be rewarded. This realization gave me more confidence in my academics. I now feel driven by the fact what I set my mind to can be achieved when I give it my best effort, and believe in ability more
Being a teacher is a journey that has much to do with learning about yourself and being aware that what happens in your classroom reflects only on how are you with yourself. Teachers are not conscious that they project into students, and that affects how things go in the classroom. I believe the first characteristic of a good teacher is that he/ she is always willing to analyze his/her teaching performance. Second the teacher is humble enough to receive input about the development and application of techniques, learning from it and improving.
