Reflective Essay 'Killing Chickens' By Meredith Hall

How have I developed as a writer this semester? (Or not?)
Through the semester I developed a way of strengthening my essay, by identifying and removing unnecessary words. I also learned how to add depth to my essays by having a story within a story, and carry it throughout the writing. I now understand the power that the writer has, which is forcing the reader to see and feel the way that the writer wants them to.

2. Now when I write, what three specific things do I do that I didn’t do before? (Or not?)
When I write now I write freely; meaning as it comes to mind I put it to paper. Then, I polish what I have by ensuring that I limit the amount of sentences I have in the passive voice to the minimum, transforming a sentence from the …show more content…

The essays we had to read were demonstrations of forms of writing, the essay “Killing Chickens,” by Meredith Hall is how i learned to write an underlying story.

6. Which of the activities this semester stand out as being most helpful (peer editing, brainstorm exercises, etc.)
Peer editing, because some of my fellow classmates really gave an effort, at responding to my essays. The responses caused me to closely analyze my essays, so i could fix it by adding some extra details, or further explaining a phrase or point i was trying to make. Part of the peer editing is showing what part of the writing requirements we did not meet, this part of the peer editing really helped me out because sometimes when i think i included some of the elements required my classmates point out that it isn't the case and i get a chance to correct it before turning my paper in. 7. Wish we had done more of:
I wish we had done more of peer editing, because we were only allotted two times of peer editing, and that’s through group editing. I think if we were able to receive one more peer edit, but have it done by the professor it would allow us to really see where we are before we turn in our papers. Because majority of the time when i go to turn in my papers i find that in the comment area beside my grade, are things that i failed to include but when they were reviewed by the writing center and Professor Belz there was nothing
