Her previous positions include nursing in the pediatric intensive care unit at both the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and in the emergency department of a hospital located in New Jersey. She also had a position as a school nurse previously and went to school following to earn her PhD. What Kate loves most about her job is the opportunity to work with students and interns as well as research on the whole. It has been argued that the shift towards patient-conscious medical aid is necessary and that simulation in its widest sense can be used to support this process. However, sensitivity to what we are simulating is essential, especially when simulations purport to address patient perspectives. The essay first reviews the history of medical education "centeredness," then outlines ways in which real and simulated patients are currently involved in medical education. Patient-focused simulation is described as a means of offering patients' perspectives during the acquisition of clinical procedural and surgical skills. The authors draw on their experiences of developing Patient-focused simulation and preliminary work to "authenticate" simulations from patient perspectives.
a. This portfolio shows the educational journey through the BSN program at Western Governors University(WGU). The curriculum at WGU was very challenging, nonetheless it prepared me to become a safe and effective nurse. The BSN curriculum provided avenues to keep me up to date with safe practices and learn how to master therapeutic communication. WGU also helped me sharpen my critical thinking skills in order to make decisions quickly and provide safe and effective care to patients. As the result of my training, I am ready to embark in the field of nursing and do my best to make a difference in my patients lives.
Student work in small groups of four for the psychomotor skill component and feedback was provided to students by student nurse educators on the spot while performing the procedure. Finally, a five questions gaming was provided to measure student’s cognitive retention of the material discussed and the skill gain. The students worked in collaboratively in groups of four to complete the post-quiz and were given feedback on their strengths and weaknesses. The students score higher than 90% on the post-quiz and verbalize collaborative academia learning milieu was permeated with rich intellectual opportunities needed to demonstrate clinical skills and competencies successfully and to further advance their wisdom on catheter insertion and removal. Hence, as a student nurse educator, I feel privileged to contribute to this project and to have made an impact in the lives of students.
While participating in the “Deteriorating Patient” simulation, learning to complete a Situation, Background, Assessment, and Recommendation (SBAR) report while caring for a deteriorating patient was the most challenging task to complete. After receiving report and beginning the initial interaction with the patient, my confidence level was on a steady rise. Everything seemed to flow well and initiating conversation while building a rapport with the patient was also very easy to complete. Once the patient started to deteriorate, I found myself becoming unorganized and my thoughts were racing. Though I was managing the situation very well, I called for a charge nurse because I realized I needed help.
I am interested in applying to the USC New Graduate Nurse Residency Program offered in the Stepdown Telemetry Unit. Rashid Ahmed Guided Reflection Questions Opening Questions How did the simulated experience of Rashid Ahmed’s case make you feel? Overall, the simulation case of Mr. Ahmed was a positive experience that makes me feel in control and challenged by the situation. I perform multiple nursing skills and acknowledge acquired during lectures. For example, in reference to fluid, electrolyte, and acid-base balance information, I was able to identify the needs of a dehydrated patient.
Reflecting on the past seven weeks I have acquired countless knowledge, which I will use to further strengthen my profession as an Advanced Practice Nurse. The course allowed me to think beyond my current practice knowledge and acquired innovative ways to evaluate the situation at hand. The learning objective in program outcome four helps set standards that I will use to guide my clinical practice to meet various healthcare needs. Using the case studies has helped to further enhance my knowledge on disease physiological state, using differential diagnosis, disease manifestations, and clinical presentation. It has also taught me the skills on how to differentiate between similar diagnoses to properly identify the problem and treat the patients.
Upon arriving to the unit this morning, I quickly realized today was going to be a chaotic day with the current patient census, and all of the new admissions. I was able to assist the night charge nurse with today’s assignments, while she helped with the code, and the day began. I informed my team that today was going to be a long day, and encouraged them to use each other and myself for help. I recommended they taking a few minutes to coordinate their work after receiving report. At 0745, when Jane informs me that the patient in 408 has fallen, I am quick to get into the room and do an assessment again.

Even though I attempted to complete some of my initial goals for this internship, I noticed that I couldn’t complete a few of them due to lack of time and lack of experience in the field. Evolution from Novice to a Beginning Professional Nurse Looking back when I started my nursing school, I can proudly say that I have evolved both physically and psychologically. I was not sure if nursing was the right choice for me at first because I had difficulties interacting with people outside my family circle. The first semester was challenging for me because I did not know how to interact with my class mates and felt isolated each time there is a class activity. I joined a study group later that semester and it has been an excitement ever since.
