“O Romeo, Romeo! Wherefore art thou Romeo?” (ACT 2. SC. 2 line 33) have you heard this line before? You most likely have as it is a line from one of the most well known plays in the world, “Romeo And Juliet”by Shakespeare. Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy in which two star crossed lovers from rival families fall for eachother. In Romeo and Juliet there are many longingly promises of affection exchanged between Romeo and Juliet, however this display of affection is naive and superficial.
The relationship between Juliet and Romeo is very naively led. As suspected of a 13 year old, Juliet in the beginning acts very innocently, passionately and reckless with her affections and endearment towards Romeo, for example, she grants Romeo, whom by the way …show more content…

In the beginning when Romeo attends the Capulet party he is only there to distract himself from the grief he felt over his unrequited love he held for Rosaline, a maiden who swore chastity. In a matter of minutes Romeo completely disregards his former love for Rosaline with his lust over Juliet. He breaks out into poetry at the sight of her “Like a rich jewel in an Ethiope's ear; Beauty too rich for use, for earth too dear!”(ACT 1. SC. 5 line 47-48) he is immediately swooned over by her looks alone, not even questioning her character. This is also mentioned later on in our story by Friar Lawrence who says “Holy Saint Francis, what a change is here! Is Rosaline, that thou didst love so dear, So soon forsaken? Young men’s love then lies Not truly in their hearts, but in their eyes.” (ACT 2. SC 2. Line 65-68). Juliet is also deceived by Romeo's looks and they both lust after eachother even impulsively deciding to marry the day after they meet for ulterior motives. Romeo wishes to marry Juliet due to her beauty and Juliet wishes to marry Romeo in order to escape her possible engagement to Paris.
