Slavery has been around for centuries, surprisingly it is still here today. Modern society has advanced over time as well as the new forms of slavery. Human trafficking is a crucial economic issue represented with different types of slavery. Currently, human trafficking is practiced around the whole world and is a difficult conflict to stop. Human trafficking is known for marriage, labor, and sex in many areas across the world.
Frequently, many children are forced to marry someone at a young age. “Forced marriage is a practice where individuals are not allowed to refuse marriage or guaranteed marriage to another selected by parents, guardians, relatives, from people and other groups. The most common labors are forced labor, child labor, and bondage labor. Forced labor is similar to American historical slavery that involves working without pay. Force labor is a category for different types of involuntary labor such as child labor and bondage labor. “Child labor is a field of force labor involving children to be forced into sex acts, serve as domestic servitude, as well as become a part of social, mental, and physical abuse. Children also fall into forced labor due to poverty, supply needs, and demands for cheap labor. Bondage labor, also known as debt or peonage, is another type of forced labor that begins with a process of inherited or acquired money. The worker must pay the debt including additional expenses such as food, shelter, and water. “Sex trafficking is considered a crime if any adults and children are forced to preform commercial sex acts. An estimate of 4.5 million sex victims are involved with sex trafficking worldwide. Apart from adults, children around the world are used for many occasions such as child pornography, sex slavery, and are sold throughout the sex industry. According to the law, a child under the age of 18 years old and are occupied with commercial sex are automatically considered to be a victim of the sex trafficking. Concealed from the law, sex trafficking successfully bates both adult and child traffickers with false promises to become slaves in the sex industries”4 (Shared Hope International). Victims fall in poverty, are prone to sex trafficking, and lack rights to gain access to basic need such as education.
All in all, human trafficking is a serious tragedy appearing in modern society. Many children are obligated to marry at young ages and are involved with many mandatory sexual activities. Different types of labor demonstrates the issue of slavery with adults and children. In affiliation to sex trafficking, many children and adults are deceived and forced to preform sexual activities, abused, sold, and placed in debt. Human trafficking is a major concerning problem in consequence to illegal human migration to avoid commercial sexual exploitation and labor
