Jeffery Dahmer also known as the Milwaukee cannibal was a notorious sex offender in America. He was charged for rape and murder of 17 young boys. Dahmer would also eat the parts of the young boys after he had killed them. What lead Dahmer to turn out like this? There are a several different theories that would fit in. This paper is going to talk about Dahmer’s crimes in more detail, the overview of the developmental theory, and how the developmental theory can explain Dahmer’s childhood to create the monster he was.

This implies that Dahmer’s father did not like being around the household and spent most of his time at the university to get away, and Dahmer’s mom wasn’t in the healthy enough so she would lay in bed all day. This meant Dahmer did not have adequate parenting in his life when he most needed it. As Dahmer grew up and started going to school he was very quite and did not make a lot of friends, Carlin (2011) said in his study that Dahmer’s “first grade teacher noted that he was shy and rigid, that he did not make friends easily, and that he seemed very unhappy”(p.383). When Dahmer got to high school was around the same time he hit puberty and realized he was homosexual at around this period Dahmer’s parents started fighting verbally and sometime physically. Dahmer didn’t know how to fix these issues he was facing so he turned to alcohol as the cure. Dahmer would start drinking before he would go to school in the morning and in class. This all resulted in drop in academic standing for Dahmer and peer rejection so Dahmer didn’t have to many friends from first grade up all the way to high school which would make it a greater percent chance for him to turn in to criminal. Dahmer in high school would do pranks such as screaming through the hallways. This would come under the psychological risk factors; one factor is ADHD Dahmer was always trying to seek attention in any means possible.
