Malala Yousafzai was only 16 years old when she was shot for speaking up for the 31 million girls around the world who cannot get an education. Yousafzai was shot October 9, 2012. A famous saying of hers was, “Let us pick up our books and our pens, they are the most powerful weapons.” A men approached the bus Yousafzai was riding in and asked, “Who is Malala?” After that she did not seem to remember what happened next, however her friend described the scene. Two hours had passed until a helicopter could deliver her from a local hospital to a military surgeon. He then spent five hours trying to relieve the swelling from her brain and remove tiny cloths.
