Malala Yousafzai’s story begins at her birth. She was not born into a typical Pakistani family. She was the first child in her family and while most families did not celebrate the birth of a girl, Malala’s father could not have been more proud to have her. Malala’s father was a political activist and believed women and men both deserved and education. He opened a school for both boys and girls, with the goal of educating as many children as he could. Malala took after her father in every way. She craved education and was a powerful speaker who loved to speak out for education. When the Taliban began to take over her valley, Swat, Malala did not anticipate her life changing much. Malala ended up being very wrong the Taliban started taking over every aspect of their life in swat. They set curfews for everyone an anyone who disobeyed their ruling would be killed. This was until one afternoon, on the way home from school, her bus was stopped by a Talib. Malala was only 11years old when she was shot in the head a point blank rang; astonishingly she lived. She was immediately rushed to the hospital where she floated between life and death for a few days. Malala was considered a public figure throughout Pakistan, so the news of her shooting spread like wild fire in her country and slowly across the world. As more people learned about what was happing to Malala European doctors all reached out to help her, knowing that the hospital she was currently in was not the best for the recovery she needed.
