One cold January night a beautiful baby girl was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Elizabeth Griscom, or better known as Betsy Ross. Betsy came from a family of Quakers, so she eventually learned to sew when she was apprenticed to an upholsterer. In 1773 Betsy ran away from home to marry her secret lover, John Ross. Then opened an upholstery shop where Betsy sewed. While working in her upholstery shop in New Jersey, Betsy Ross got a visit from General George Washington.
Two amazing men who had great hopes of living the American Dream, Andrew Carnegie and John D. Rockefeller. They both started from the bottom of the ladder, poor family, impoverished, and eventually climbed to the point where they became known as many of the men who created America. Their accomplishment started out when they were approached and challenged with difficult situations, but as clever entrepreneur. They were able to overcome the roadblocks, by taking enormous risks and strategic planning. These actions were very successful that it allowed their company’s budget to snowball to the point where they became one of the most wealthiest men on earth.
Carnegie, Rockefeller, Morgan. These are American icons that are everpresent in today’s society both for what these men were able to accomplish in their respected industries, but more importantly for their contributions to the betterment of society. “Many workmen were burned more or less severely... one man had steel come down directly on the head and back...the burned flesh dropped from his bones” (Lowly Worker) as they put him on a stretcher. These were the awful working conditions in factories during the 19th century.
Andrew Carnegie, one of the best businessmen in all of american history. Most consider Carnegie as a robber baron but I disagree. I say that Andrew Carnegie was in the place of a captain of industry. Carnegie was a captain of industry because he was the world's richest business man that came from a poor shoemaker house in scotland and once he sold away his massive company he turned to the people and became a philanthropists.
When the economy boomed so did the workers, but at certain times starting out, business men questioned if they were getting a good deal or not. (Sinclair, 30- 35). Henry Ford represents corporate America by creating the Ford brand and by making the biggest impact in American history.
George Eastman, Andrew Carnegie, John D. Rockefeller and J.P. Morgan were Captains of Industry. One reason these four men were Captains of Industry was that they all donated millions of dollars a lot of different charities. They were called philanthropists because they donated a lot of money to help people. George Eastman gave generously to the Eastman School of Music. Her also gave money for scholarships, and internships to engineering students at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Many modern heroes were leaders, for example Mahatma Gandhi. Gandhi was the superior leader of the Indian independence movement. The Northwest and Red River rebellions are similar to the Indian independence movement because they’re both about a group of people revolting against society. Riel was also thoughtful, he truly cared about the Métis. After being banished from Canada and living in the United States for 15 years, he returned to Canada to fight for their rights.
Who are American heroes? People have many perceptions of heroes such as a person seen on T.V. with powers, but that is not what a hero is. A hero is someone that makes a change makes the world a better place. In unit four, there were many American heroes like Roosevelt and Washington. Roosevelt was a hero because she had guided a country suffering through hard times.
“Who is the richest American ever?”When asked this question, the name that most often come to mind is Bill Gates but the actual American to become the richest, most famous, influential and the most two-sided businessman at the time: Andrew Carnegie, hero or villain?. In order to answer that question we have to know what the words "hero” and "villain” actually mean. According to Webster Dictionary, a hero is a “person, especially a man admired for courage, nobility, or exploits, especially in war,” and "the central figure in any important event or period, honored for outstanding qualities.” or basically a role model who does good for a cause and has good morals while a villain is described as "someone or something regarded as the cause of
When we hear the word “hero” a lot of people think about superman or batman. Philanthropist, Andrew Carnegie was a hero through his kindness and generosity. Andrew Carnegie grew up very poor and lived in a room with his family. As Andrew grew older, he grew smarter and started to begin his industry. Later when we was financially successful he gave back to the community.
During the late 1800s many well-known business leaders widely arose across the America, such as Andrew Carnegie, Cornelius Vanderbilt, John D. Rockefeller, Jay Gould, J.P. Morgan. Some of these tycoons contributed to America, while others were considered robber barons. People who were controlling economy, monopolizing different industries and using of illegal means to gain wealth called robber barons. Despite this, their names can be compared with innovation, big business and the American Dream. They discovered fabulous advances in technology while fighting to unite their industries and rise to the top of the business world.
One major example is George Washington. George Washington is known as "the father of our country". No other historical figure had a more central role during the American Revolution and the early national period. Even after his death, Washington remained the leading symbol of American nationalism. He is a hero because of his great achievements during his presidency and war despite his struggles.
Much like Steve Jobs, these men were the leading business Titans of their time. John D. Rockefeller, JP Morgan, Cornelius Vanderbilt, and Andrew Carnegie were all some of the Titans that shaped and help modernize the nation that we know today by excelling in different industries and boosting America into the most modernized, and Industrialized
