Encouraging Success "We can't help everyone, but everyone can help someone" (Ronald Reagan). Graduating college is an admirable feat, but do we ever stop to think of the people who are unable to complete the journey through college? Could someone have helped them out and made sure that they had all of the tools that they needed to succeed? The time in our lives that most students are in college, is an extremely stressful one, and almost all students need a strong support system in place to help them through it. If we want to be successful, we need to work together and help our peers to not only succeed in class, but in making friends and real-world connections. To begin, Residential Leaders are our friends, advisors, and most of all, our mentors. Incoming freshman, who are probably away from home for the very first time, typically need someone to look up to and rely on. They need to learn how to transition from living at home to living on their own, or with someone that they have never met before. I came to college knowing that I would be living almost five hours away from my family. I cannot just walk into the next room to ask my mom a question. So many people have helped me to get to where I am now, and I want to be able to pay that forward. About two weeks into my first semester here, I was stressing out over an assignment that I missed in my chemistry lab, and my RL was able to reassure me and help me figure out who to ask and who to email to get the problem solved. It was something so small, but so important to me, but she did not laugh at me or judge me for overreacting. She helped me, and I am beyond grateful. I simply want to be the person that people can look up to, someone who can prove to people that you can make it through college as long as you have the patience and people in your corner who will encourage you in everything you aspire to
