Bilingual Licensed Psychiatric Technician, seeking to contribute my earned skills and knowledge. Graduated from West Hills College Psychiatric Technician Program. After graduating from Technical School I become pregnant with my daughter. I was blessed with the greatest opportunity to be able to stay home. Now that my daughter is two I feel is time for me to resume where I left off in my career.
I can’t think of anything more rewarding that I’d enjoy doing besides helping people in need. I believe being a respiratory therapist would be good for me, as I would be good for this field as well. I truly believe I’m everything that is required of this field, people-oriented, dependable, flexible, honest, compassionate, hardworking and willing to learn. I always pictured myself working in a hospital setting. When it comes to something I want to do the rest of my life, I want to feel and know what I’m doing is something important.
However, I want to do more I want to be able to follow the process from beginning to end and do the evaluations. I want to be able to do the testing and the measuring. I have set out on this journey of health care because I want to help people go from post-operative to back to fully functioning with realistic goals in place. I want to be able to walk the journey with the patients and let them know that they are not on it alone. Through Physical Therapy I feel that patients get more than just rehabilitation of an injury or surgery but they get a change in mindset from injured to functioning independently again as they did before.
I felt the same way as all of you. I am a Registered Respiratory Therapist. We all have a clinical based knowledge. Nurse and Respiratory Therapist is a part of clinical team who work always together and help each other out in the hospital. I am also anxious and enthusiastic about to follow my graduate classes at GCU.
Abbie Rodgers Civitan Camp is a volunteer summer camp for Adults with Disabilities. I volunteered for two summers from 2007-2008. During my volunteer efforts, my duties were to assist our campers with maintaining their hygiene, assist with meals, and activity schedules. Each year I observed Occupational Therapy Assistant students that would attend and assist volunteers with camper’s daily activities. I knew, after observing the students, that Occupational Therapy would be a career that would fulfill my calling to serve others.
My second day in UCLA Ronald Reagan Medical Center was really exciting. While waiting for the lecture to start, a lady from the respiratory therapy department stops by to gave us a case scenario about a COPD patient in the ER with a SPO2 of 78%. She asked us what we would do first. After everyone gave her an answer, she explained us what to do in some emergency situations. Also, she explained us five main categories a RT should focus on (Oxygenation, ventilation, bronchospasm, atelectasis and secreation).
Ever since I was a child I have always wanted to help the community and initially the only way I knew how to do this was by getting involved in the medical field with the desire of becoming a doctor. My life has mostly reflected this by attending the University of Nevada, Reno with an undergraduate degree in Biology, involving myself in the school’s pre-med fraternity and becoming a teaching assistant for Biology Labs. However, after graduation, I wanted real-world experience before committing myself to the 4+ laborious years of medical school. For the past year, I have worked for the local Emergency Medical Services, REMSA, as an EMT. Being an EMT has completely changed the idea of how I see my future.
I want to be a physician because I want people to grow old. At the age of 6, one of my closest friends was diagnosed with leukemia. By age 8, the disease claimed his life, robbing him of the opportunity to experience the privilege of growing old. Unfortunately, we live in a society of vanity. We see the process of aging and choose not to embrace it.
Growing up, my parents taught me the importance of education, and having the privilege of attending school. They both grew up in poverty, where education was not a priority, where knowing how to write your name is good enough for an education. I am a first-generation student, I want to pursue a career as a Physical Therapist. Continuing an education is a priority of mine, as I believe that the world is filled with endless lessons that create a broad perspective on various topics.

At the same time, my desire to work directly with people and be able to make a positive and lasting change to their lives by empowering them and helping discover their strengths and confidence in themselves to achieve their goals, led me to a realization that a career in occupational therapy would be a perfect fit for me. To me occupational therapy is a dynamic, rewarding, challenging, and inspiring field where I can fully realize my skills and knowledge. Having always been a firm believer in the patient-centric approach, I am passionate about providing excellent service to patients by improving their performance, preventing illness and disability and promoting adaptation to life
Becoming an occupational therapist is my passion and my long-term career goal. Since a young age I have been incredibly inspired and motivated to befriend and help disabled individuals. Having grown up with a disabled mother who benefited from the services of occupational therapy I had the opportunity to see first hand how the experience gave can give individuals like her fulfilling and productive lives. With both parents working as healthcare professionals, including my mother who is now an occupational therapist herself, I see every day how rewarding the field is. Through my life I have had unique personal, professional and educational experiences that have shaped me into a strong candidate for an advanced education in occupational therapy.
PURPOSE STATEMENT: TO INFORM MY AUDIENCE WHY I WANT TO BECOME A SPEECH THERAPIST. CI: HOW MY PAST AND PRESENT LIFE EXPERIENCES HAVE HELPED CREATE A FUTURE GOAL OF BECOMING A SPEECH THERAPIST. It was the last Saturday before my classes were to start, and I was enjoying sleeping late in my room.
